Expected Impact

EU-Japan Collaboration

EFFICOMP will contribute to deepen and widen the existing cooperation between Europe and Japan.

More specifically throughout this project, the two cultures are given the opportunity to learn from each other and to use their expertise towards developing a common way for problem interpretation and solving.

A deeper understanding of each culture will be a key point to develop in order to enable mutual understanding and mutual confidence. This knowledge and experience will favor future projects on work-sharing production and development of the next generation aircraft.

In this way, EFFICOMP’s expected impact in the long term is to contribute to the establishment of future strong links between the aerospace industries of Europe and Japan, leading to novelty proposals for high technology aircrafts with affordable price across the worldwide market.


Technical and societal impact

From a technical point of view, the EFFICOMP project will demonstrate the capacity of European and Japanese partners to mature the level of readiness of novel technologies and concepts towards producing low-cost composites parts for the aviation and aerospace industry.

EFFICOMP will be a lead time reduction for composite-part production in order to facilitate an increase in the aircraft production ramp-up. EFFICOMP is also expected to provide the confirmation for the safe and efficient utilization of competitive-cost-composites on the aircraft industry, against metallic structures.

This ultimately results in further cost and environmental impacts, as the intensive utilization of composite materials on aircraft will result in reduced NOx and CO2 emission/km, thus contributing to a  cleaner and safer environment.

A successful EFFICOMP project is also expected to modify the composite manufacturing workshop by the introduction of new heating systems for curing and assembling composites, leading to the reduction of manual operations for quality improvement, ultimately resulting to more time- and cost-efficient processes.

The overall time- and cost-gain which are expected to be enabled by EFFICOMP are impacts which affect aircraft manufactures, airline companies and the end the passengers. EFFICOMP’s cost-reduction goals will of course contribute to the increased utilization of aircrafts, thus responding to the growing demand for transport of goods and passengers, while enabling the reduction of  ticket prices, shipments and cargos.
